We are on a long passage from Long Island in the Bahamas to the Turks and Caicos. This is the second night of sailing through the night. The sea is more rough tonight and the lightening not to far away is frequent, like every 5 seconds!. We have 10 Nautical miles to go to the Anchorage in the West side of Provo. We managed to arrive at the Anchorage by 2am. We then had a restful night to sleep.
Next morning, we were going to the South Side Marina where we are supposed to meet Sea Squirrel. It must have been a difficult night for them since it was their, first overnight passage.
The weather is supposed to turn bad this afternoon but the Squalls started ealier today as we were heading out of the Anchorage. We had 35 knot wind and big waves blowing towards a large reef. It took us 2 hours to clear the reef and turn downwind to the marina.
In another two hours, we will arrive in South Side Marina, Turks and Caicos. It is like a dream that we made it for 48 hours without any problem. We worried a little about Sea Squirrel but maybe they had arrived at the Marina before us. They said that they would arrive at 1 pm and we hoped that the rough waves did not cause the delay.
By the time we arrived at the Marina, Sea Squirrel had arrived earlier and were sleeping. We had a pizza party and shared the journeys story that evening.
After we left the Bahamas our phone did not work so we could not communicate with each other other than VHF radio that has a range of under 20 miles. The night before, Sea Squirrel saw us in the Anchorage and tried to anchor next to us. They were not successful to anchor and they even made a circle about our Boat. We did not know any of this since it was about 6:00 am so we were in deep sleep.
Five of us rented a car to go sightseeing of Provo Island in the Turks and Caicos. This Island is built well and has good organization. It was refreshing to see the culture and art. We went to several Gallerys. Among all the art pieces and paintings, the most beautiful pieces are natural see shells and natural see corals.
We walked to an interesting seating area in the street and had delicious coffee. It was raining outside and inside of the fabric curtain was really cozy and comfortable. We all toasted to the next leg, the sail trip to Luperon in the DR. That is another big leg across the Atlantic North Equatorial Current.
All my very best wishes for calm seas and safe harbors.
