Cocoa and Melbourne

Cocoa is a really quaint town. The historical society preserved the original town plan and the modern car oriented part is well blended with the original town. A lot of antique shops and specialty shops are designed well with gardens.

Well designed outdoor courtyard and restaurant.

It is Melbourne! Any Snowbird (people in boats who winter in the south and summer in the north) is happy to be in Melbourne since no more cold weather and real Florida. We got a Morning Visit! We were having some coffee sitting outside in the cockpit of the boat, this Crane wanted to participated with us and stayed for a while.

Making a conversation with us.

We think the Birds and animals like Alligators, Manatees and Cranes are not afraid of humans in Melbourne and Florida in general. Otherwise the city of Melbourne does not have a distinct character at all.

I told to Peter that I will handle every respect of the boat by myself from Melbourne. When the water is warm enough to swim, the fear of falling out of the boat is gone. If you fall in it is easy to climb the swim steps and get right back in. Β Although there are several things difficult to do for a less physicaly strong person. Pulling up the Anchor is a physically demanding thing, Β we have no electric windlass. Peter treats this as his morning exercise. Also I am afraid of the height a little on the Deck.

How threatening!

The Engine for the dinghy has to be installed in the dinghy from the boat after a long passage. The Engine is somewhat heavy and awkward.

Needs to go on the back of the dinghy and not dropped in the water!

The dinghy is quite heavy. On a beach we always try to carry the dinghy together from each side to carry it above the tide line so it does not float away. It is painful for the arms and Palms.

All the Boat Equipment is designed to the limit of male strength. As a matter of fact, I think all machineries are made for the Male strength.

If I have time and money, I will devote myself to recreate all the necessary equipment for the limit of Female strength. The technology is developed enough people, we could make new light materials and techniques.

All Female Members! Don’t you agree with me? I hope that there are some Male Members who agree with this too.

  3. I agree with you completely, Lee. Equipment should be made lighter and easier for women (and more men!) to handle. I’m afraid you’ll be returning to New York looking like Popeye the Sailor Man, with bulging biceps and an anchor tattoo on each arm! You might have to eat lots of spinach!

You write of how warm the weather is in Florida, but here on New York and New Jersey it’s in the upper 50’s / low 60’s! I bring a sweater in my bag to work each day, but never wear it. I’ve been in my shirtsleeves for days now!

Looking forward to Xmas Day – I’ll be making dinner for a bunch of friends at our house that day. For me, it’s not a Christian thing – it’s an English thing. Hope you two have a thoroughly enjoyable Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Meanwhile, as always, I look forward to the next installment of your blog.
