Lee and Peter Sailing Trip was for Four not Two Years. Now an Italian adventure

We left No Name Harbor, Florida at 4:00am with Presence-ing to the Bahamas. The Sea was calm and beautiful Sunrise. To save our engine we did not motor as fast as Presence-ing so they went ahead and we lost site of them half way over to Gun Cay. We did not see them again so don’t know where they went.

We are not sailing to the closest Bahama Island Bimini, we are sailing much further east to a more Central part of the Bahamas, Morgan’s Bluff on the the Island of Andros. We entered the banks through a narrow channel between Gun Cay and North Cat Cay.

We turn tracking on when moving and it updates once per hour.

About dusk, we stopped about 10 miles into the Grand Bahamas Bank, and anchored. The entire Bank is as big as 60 Miles and only averages 10 feet deep. You can see the bottom very clearly and we saw the Anchor set. Peter saw a hammer head shark swim under the boat. There was no other boats or land in site. Perfect isolation. To sleep on the Bank, is very strange and interesting.

We arrived at Morgans Bluff after one more night on the Bank and had a good couple of sailing days. First thing we did after clearing the Custom, is to eat Conch Salad at a local bar / shack. It was so delicious and fresh from a Bahamian boat.

The way, we have to anchor inside the inner Harbor was not easy at all. We had to try to back in by motor to be near the land. This was awkward since the wind blew away diagonally accross the land really quickly and the boat would drift to the side rapidly.  We had to use anchors at the bow and the stern and tie up to the trees.

The next day was another bowl of Conch Salad as a dinner again. It is so fresh and delicate we cannot resist!

We took a walk around the Habor and surrounding area and find the forest different from Florida. Unusual looking trees and plants.

Peter found Henry Morgan’s Cave and climbed down inside with a flash light to explore and find the treasure that folklore says is hidden there. It is real cave with passages but no clean stalactites.

There is mono hull sail boat nearby and Georgie and David joined us for tea. They had many tales to tell of going to Cuba.
