Andros Island, Bahamas

Andros Island has a lot of Blue Holes. In the middle of the forest, there are Blue Holes which have fresh water at the surface. They are 100s of feet deep with fresh water at the top, salt water in the middle and anaerobic salt water at the bottom.

This smaller size Blue Hole is Uncle Charlie Blue Hole. The sides are very steep so would be difficult to get out if you fell in.

Peter is swimming inside the Captain Bill Blue Hole. It is a larger size Blue Hole in the middle of the Pine Virgin Forest. There was a ladder to climb out. We drank the water of this Blue Hole it tasted like mineral water. Real mineral water, not the supermarket variety.

Andros Island is the biggest Island in the Bahamas and fifth biggest Island in the Carribean. While driving around, one gets the feeling of barren and desolete under the strong sun. It is sparsly popullated even though the seashore and the Sea are so beautiful.

The Neighbour Boat went snorkeling on the bay yesterday and they got six Lobsters. Today we are going snorkling with Michelle and Milano of Margaritaville.

An intrepid Lobster hunter!

We had so much fun to go snorkling for Lobster hunting but no Lobsters. We saw some fish, starfish and crabs. We snorkeled over a sunken cargo boat and it felt like swimming over the Titanic. After snorkling, we had drinks on Magritaville.

More intrepid Lobster hunters!

Magritaville left for the south this morning and awhile later they came back. It was too rough out there. On Monday, it will be fine. So our Lobster hunting snorkling is going on today again. And again no Lobsters but Peter got a large whelk that we cooked and had in a salad!

Tonight, we are having special Adios dinner on our Boat with Magritaville. We are sailing tomorrow morning together but to different places in Bahamas.

  1. Nice pictures and what an adventure it must be to be swimming in a blue hole! Also, hope your birthday was great, Peter! Happy BDay!

  2. Happy Birthday Pete. Our neighbor’s parents(Ted and Kirsty Harrison) are moored at Andros Island now. Their boat is the Firelight in case you happen across them.Your pictures are wonderful.

  3. Happy birthday for yesterday, Pete (and happy Pi day too). Carol mentioned about Ted & Kirsty Harrison, also on Andros (our friend Tina’s parents) – their boat Firelight has a big Norwegian flag. Give them our regards if you see them. Cheers!
