Painting Show DR

We made a lot of progress in Spanish so we could hold a conversation with a Dominican in Spanish. We are taking the class one hour every day and we study hard outside. It is really fun to study Spanish when we could practice right away with the people. And learning a language helps somehow for my painting too.

Having fun speaking Spanish

It is so hot normally, we are enjoying much our airconditioned room, studio, in a hotel. Almost every morning, Peter goes to the boat and works on the boat. Even if it is very hot, he continues to work so that he is loosing weight slowly, I am afraid. Without airconditioning it was so hot that we were eating only two meals a day. With airconditioning we eat more. Since I work in the airconditioned room, except the Spanish class, it seems that I may? gain weight.

Is he getting really skinny?

Peter is working on his teeth with a Dominican Dentist who seems young and is female. The temporary bridge seems to be looking allright and the dental fee was one third of the dental fee in America.

Enjoying the ocean breezes and shade.

On a normal evening, we stay in and watch Marco Polo for one hour and go to the bed early. I can get up at 5:30 am and start to paint. One evening Peter went to the Movie night alone and people suggest for me to participate the evening activity together. So Peter and I will go the Karaoke night on Friday. I take a break for the weekend, so I do not have to get up early on Saturday morning.

Luperon is a nice place to stay for a long time. Specially there is a good harmony between the local and the boaters. Generally speaking, the boaters are responsible and open minded to new culture. Amazing enough that the boaters can cash a personal check over $1,000 dollars on the spot. So much trust to the boaters.

We went to Imbert, the closest town to Luperon. The Guagua is a good method of transportation. It is a normal size of car and six of us squashed in the car plus the driver. They wait until they have at least 4 people before moving. 60 pesos for 15 kms thats about $1.50.

The bridge at Imbert!

This is a Vetenarian hospital in town. Sometimes about 20 cows passing through the road and blocking everything.

I am having a Painting Show in Luperon. A lot of people are asking about my paintings and I have enough paintings so decided to have a show. There is quite a few people who are interested in buying but the New York price is so high and also I need to have a show in New York with these new paintings.

  1. I wish we could join you in Luperon for your exhibition, Lee … with or without complementary wine! We’ll have to await your eventual return to NYC to see your latest works, I suppose.

Glad you’re both enjoying this experience of a lifetime … miss you both! Best from Carol and me.
