First Son, Mathew

We are waiting for Mathew, Peter’s first son in Juliana Airport. We drove the dinghy to the Pink Iguana (a floating bar) and walked to the airport after tying the dinghy to the Pink Iguana. On the way back to the boat, after having picked up Mathew we had a drink in the Pink Iguana Bar. Pink Iguana is a very interesting looking boat transformed into a bar.

Sand Blast Beach is an exciting and fun place to be. The airplanes fly very low (it looks like almost 8 foot) on top of the beach so the sands really blast. And the ocean is also very violent with strong waves. While eating lunch, we were waiting for a big airplane in order to take a video tape. Mathew was very excited about everything.

Exciting Sand Blast Beach

We decided to sail depending on the direction the wind was blowing. After clearing out of St. Maarten Island, southeast was the best for sailing with today’s wind. So we are going southeast to Antigua. It will be an all day and overnight trip.

Mathew and Peter are fishing all the time while sailing. They got two big Barracudas so far. But we let them free since it is not good to eat.

Oh! It is a Barracuda!

Arrived on Antigua 10:00 in the morning. Through the night the sailing was superb and we were making almost a good 6 knots. After check in and Immigration, we went to an anchorage to enjoy the walk on the bizzare looking rock and swim. The water was really aqua color but milky so snorkeling was not good.

Mathew loved to play in the Blow Hole and having fun with it. The water shoots every 30 seconds, I believe. We walked around and all over the rocks and then were ready to move to the final anchorage since it was quite rocky. We moved to really private and quiet place. No boats are around and we were totally alone.

This is Mathew diving into the ocean from the boat. We all swam in our private ocean. Antigua Island has all these hilly, small mountains. The Island got independence from England in mid 20 century.
