Antigua and Monserrat

Antigua Island is very established and beautiful but expensive. English Harbour is a very secure harbour with a lot of character. Everything is kept well historically and the buildings are beautiful. This is the ruin which is used tastfully as a restaurant named The Pillars.

Mathew and I are enjoying a drink in a beautiful setting. It is very hot outside but here is a constant breeze and cool. Mathew thinks that we have the best retirement life. I imagine that pretty soon he will have a travelling life like us somewhere.

This is a front view of our boat. Peter takes care of the boat so nicely, it is in very good condition. He is always busy to do some repairs or maintenance job. Last job was to do the wood work on the floor inside of the cabin.

I told to Mathew that I would like to dry some fish so he is working hard to catch some. In my culture, we eat a lot of dry fish but you can not buy dry fish or it is very expensive and imported in New York these days.

Passionate Fisherman!

We took the trail around the shore of the harbour. A lot of Cacti are around and more dry vegetation. The Cliff to the water is amazing and scary sometimes. You can see the formation of the rocks and constant change of the Cliffs.

Monserrat has an active Volcanic Mountain. You can see the Ash coming up from the mountain and the Ash coming down in the valley. There are clouds covering the top all the time due to the Ash and Steam.

The Main Sail needs a repair. It has a big rip in the bottom so we had to have unnecessary reefing. We need to take off the Sail and sew with sewing machine. We carry the Sewing Machine but we probably need a professional to do complete repairs on this.

Checking out The Main Sail

We sailed around the portion of the Volcanic Mountain intentionally. It took two or three more hours more to the Anchorage but very interesting to observe the different angle of the mountain and Volcano.

The Landscapes of mountains look like a moving mass and the ashes come out just like a living proof. The Observation Deck is very interesting to monitor the Volcano and the warning system is all computerized.

The City of Plymouth was abandoned due to the Erruption. We did a tour into the exclusion zone. It has amazing feelings of desolation and the quietness. Most buildings are completely buried and some 5 story buildings have just the top floor or roof sticking out of the Ash.

Mathew thought it looked the pictures of Hiroshima and he was very moved by the sights. Some builldings are growing trees and bushes in the roof in the thick Ash covering. There still are the names of the buildings, University, Bakery, and Hospitals. From this building’s Roof, these trees are growing. We can imagine the strange feelings of emptyness with human cultural remains.

You can see the Ash coming by wind in this direction and the smell of the Sulphur comes and goes by the wind. It is like a Movie scene somewhere!
