We drove up the hill towards Lentella, after two years the winding road felt new and familiar at the same time. Lentella is at 400m (1300ft ) above sea level so the road is steep and winding but well maintained. We drove into the town village and through to the other side. A short way along the road leaving the village was our house at the top of a short driveway at a slight angle to the road, an inviting place.

We parked the car at the top of the driveway. The house looked lovely stone-built and interesting architectural features. So far so good our memory and expectations were correct. We unlocked the door and walked in. The walls were painted as we expected, the kitchen and fireplace were wrecked and a work in progress. Everything looked good but cold and empty. The rooms were larger than we remembered. We were happy.

Walking around the grounds reminded us of the beautiful area with views of the Lentella 12th century church on a high promontory, the old houses, a commanding view over the valley and down to the sea. Hidden by the olive trees but visible from a short walk is a panoramic view of a snow-capped mountain. High snow in mid-October. This is truly a wonderful place.

When we last visited in 2019 the lean-to shed at the back of the house was full of junk, it was all gone and clean, also a broken shed at the side has been removed and cleaned. A pleasant surprise.

We are contented and pleased with our purchase. Bed, the first piece of furniture, is due to arrive tomorrow.
We are concerned about our address, will the delivery people find us? The official address is Contrada Pischieto SNC (snc means “senza numero civico” without building number). Contrada Pischieto does not appear on any maps, google maps, or Italian maps. Our road is shown as Contrada Difesa. In our limited Italian we checked at the Post Office and they said to see the Commune (town hall). The Commune said the official address is correct. To be safe we placed a kilometer marker at our entrance and use that as a building number. Peter also prepared an address card.

We have been in the San Salvo Airbnb for a week already. Every morning we get breakfast at the bar called “The Meeting Place”. We are well known there now and they ask when are we moving to the house. We are also well known at the Chinese / Japanese restaurant. We are really looking forward to moving into the house. Walking up 4 floors several times a day is a pain in the legs. The owner has promised to help us move out and carry the luggage down, a nice gesture. Hopefully, the bed will arrive so we have somewhere to sleep the next day.
Congratulations. Now you need to own a couple of huskies or retrievers!

So the Movable Adventure, like the Movable Feast, continues! First you were sailing the Caribbean, then you were Airbnb proprietors in Puerto Rico, and now… homeowners in Italy!! You’re both an inspiration to more cautious souls like us! We’ll look forward to visiting you there one of these days … assuming you’re still there and haven’t moved to Kazakhstan or Uganda or somewhere else!
Your descriptions and photos remind me of our travels in this part of Italy some years back. Unlike you, we were simply visiting, en route from Rome to Venice, via San Marino. We absolutely loved it there.
Carol and I wish you both and your families a happy new year. Our news, briefly – Rachel got married last May (a day or two after we met up in New Brunswick). They live now in Washington DC. I’m still happily retired, but hoping to be able to visit my family in Israel when they allow us in from the US. I’ve not seen them for over 2 years now.
We see Mike and Liisa from time to time, but socializing less than we would without COVID-19, of course.
Cheers,
Alan
